Janelle Ordiales Astles - CEO, Owner, Founding Director, and Co-Creator

Dance Training and Background 

A Cuban American girl living in a Canadian world. Janelle Astles began her early dance training in Miami, FL. She studied at Ronquillo's School of Dance under Edmundo Ronquillo and Alberto Alonso; New World School of the Arts under Dean Daniel Lewis; Boston Ballet Summer Intensive; and mainly at the Miami Youth Ballet under the direction of Marielena Mencia and Yanis Pikieris. She calls Miami Youth Ballet her “home away from home.” She received a BFA in dance from NWSA/UF and went on to begin her professional career as a company member for Freddick Bratcher and Co., apprenticing with River North Chicago Dance, and later a part of Central Florida Ballet. 

Professional Dance Career

In Central Florida, Janelle became an equity dancer at Walt Disney World with the show, “Celebrate the Season" as the Sugar Plum Fairy. After performing on the castle stage, she went on to become a part of the opening cast for two Feld Entertainment productions: "Disney Live! High School Musical Summer Celebration” as ensemble/Gabriella and "Disney Live! Mickey’s Music Festival” as Princess Jasmine/Dance Captain. Janelle toured with this company throughout North, South and Central America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. She toured with Feld Motor Sports "Nuclear Cowboyz" as the lead dancer.

Janelle has had the opportunity to appear in several well-known productions and companies such as the VMAS, Billboard Music Awards, ABC Christmas Day Parade, Lululemon, One Night One Drop - Cirque du Soleil, Royal Caribbean, Netflix, and Latin Grammys to name a few. She's performed with many artists such as Miley Cyrus, Coolio, P. Diddy, Ashlee Simpson, Katherine McPhee, Tracy Morgan, Olga Tanon, Armin Van Buuren, Pitbull, Enrique Iglesias, Marc Anthony, and Los Gigantes.

Janelle has always been passionate about choreography and teaching. She worked closely with choreographer/director, Fred Tallaksen. As assistant choreographer Janelle worked on Ringling Brothers and Barnum Bailey’s Fully Charged, Disney Live!, Google, Cisco Computers, and many other industrial events. Having lived in Las Vegas, she recently had the opportunity to perform and model for several shows. She was highly recognized for her featured role as the flight attendant pointe dancer

Between being an entrepreneur, teaching world wide, adjudicating dance competitions, and modeling Janelle lives in beautiful Vancouver BC with her loving family. 

Teaching for over a decade now, establishing  Method of Modern Movement Co. has been a long time dream come true. She is thrilled to be able to share her passion with the world! She hopes she can inspire others through movement to follow their dreams, feel good in their bodies, and improve their well being!

Jocelyn Ordiales Lavers - Co-Creator

Jocelyn Ordiales Lavers is from Miami, FL. The “baby” sister to co- creator and founder Janelle. She began ballet at an early age and received her training at the Miami Youth Ballet. She majored in dance at Florida State University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art. Jocelyn also completed her training as a Gyrontonic and Pilates instructor during that time. As well as studying, Jocelyn was a soloist with The Tallahassee Ballet where she performed several roles including “Snow White” which she was highly recognized for.

After spending her last semester studying, interning, and dancing around Italy, Jocelyn moved to NYC where she taught Gyrotonic, Pilates, and worked as a freelance dancer for a variety of choreographers.

She now lives in Coeur d’Alene, ID where she works at a Neurological Chiropractic office and continues to teach predominantly Method of Modern Movement. Jocelyn’s goal is to familiarize her community to a unique yet natural way of exercising by continuing to teach the MoMM class. See you at MoMM’s!

Olivia Patiakas - Faculty

Olivia is originally from Hamilton, Ontario and trained there up until moving to New York City to train as a ballet trainee at the Joffrey Ballet School. A graduate of the 2020 trainee class, she is now a dancer with Coastal City Ballet in Vancouver.

In addition, Olivia has trained at the summer programs of Boca Ballet Theatre, Ballet Kelowna, Lines Contemporary ballet and others. Olivia is thrilled to be a part of the Method of Modern Movement family this year!

Maddie Chee - Head of Admin, Faculty, & FOH

Maddie was born in Lafayette, IN. Her love for dance began when she took her first ballet class in Portland, OR. Upon moving to North Vancouver, she trained with Sonia Ellis and other talented faculty in the competitive dance program at Seymour Dance. She is disciplined in a variety of styles including, ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and hip hop. Much of her ballet training was under the RAD method, where she completed all her exams up to Advanced Foundation with distinction. She was also fortunate to play various lead roles such as Sugarplum Fairy, Clara, and Sleeping Beauty in Seymour Dance's yearly productions.

Upon high school graduation, Maddie began pursuing her Bachelor of Commerce degree at UBC Sauder School of Business. She was thrilled to join Method of Modern Movement's team upon hearing of it's inception during the summer of 2020. She feels very grateful to be a part of a studio that fosters such strong community and love for dance.
